At this year's Kura Mana Tahi National Primary Schools Kapa Haka Competition, TKKM o Hoani Waititi asked whether it was appropriate to let children compete.
It was a big question, in light of the fact that the school were the defending champs.
But for Māhanga Pīhama, one of the group’s tutors and one of its fathers, it was a question that he pondered over as he thought of the best option for his daughter.
Māhanga reiterates the importance of Te Reo Māori and Kapa Haka in his daughter’s life. However with the competitive side of the competition breaking through he is considering how this will affect his daughters future.
