Established in 1854, the kapa haka of Te Aute College has travelled to this year’s competition from Te Matau a Māui, for this, their sixth appearance at national level.
The group is tutored by Hiwirori Maynard and Charlene Whaitiri, and this year their manukura tāne is Te Aranga Hakiwai.
Their performance is a tribute to World War I soldiers and also encompasses the depth of Matariki.
Here is their waiata tira, 'Te Rahu Tapu a Tāne', composed by Ruth Smith in 2013, written to the popular tune 'Royals' by Lorde.
