The Māori language is rated as an important issue to voters in the Hauraki-Waikato electorate, after education, family violence, child poverty, cost of living and Māori unemployment.
These are the results of Māori Television's latest research poll which also indicates who the voters would like to see tackle these issue in the next government.
If the election was held tomorrow, Labour would take the majority of the party vote. 44% of those polled would prefer a Labour-led govt.
The Māori Party has again come in second with National trailing close on 13%.
Internet-MANA has 11% with one point separating the Greens and NZ First who is sitting on 8%.
The Conservatives have managed 1%, while no support was registered for ACT or United Future.
57% of voters polled will give their vote to the current MP Nanaia Mahuta of the Labour Party.
She is well ahead of the Māori Party's new candidate, Susan Cullen who is coming in at second place, followed by Angeline Greensill of the MANA Movement.
