Today, Western Heights High School's 1st XV rugby team played against Stratford High School from the Taranaki province, as both teams were vying for a finals spot in the Chiefs Cup Co-Ed Rugby Competition.
Stratford High School displayed a passionate start, but it didn't take long for mistakes to appear.
Western Heights won the initial penalty, shortly followed by the first try and conversion.
Stratford High School didn't give up and kept pushing forward, earning them yards on the field.
Western Heights had a player sent off, but before half-time No.13 managed a try, taking them to twenty points.
In the second half, the Rotorua-based team struggled in the scrum. Stratford took advantage and finally scored, but they were unlucky with the conversion.
Western Heights lost another player, but it didn't stop them scoring yet again.
Unfortunately, Stratford's rugby season ended, losing by eighteen points. Final score: 31-13.
Western Heights High School will now go up against Cambridge High School on Saturday, vying for a spot in the National Top 4 Co-Ed Competition.
