The name of Waikato-Tainui's governing body Te Kauhanganui has now been changed to Te Whakakitenga o Waikato.
This decision was made at a tribal meeting called by King Tuheitia, to formally close a review of the Iwi's Governance and Representation structure.
The iwi hopes the new name will urge all members of the governance entity to look to the future and think strategically.
Also, to learn from the past, forgive each other and build a bridge for the next generation to walk confidently towards their future.
The name Te Kauhanganui will be returned to Ngāti Haua.
