Street Dance NZ celebrate 10 years

Street Dance New Zealand (SDNZ) celebrates 10 years of cultivating New Zealand dance talent and showcasing it on the world stage.

This special event is followed by the National Championship competition running from Thursday 28th – Saturday 30th April 2016.

SDNZ for the past 3 months have been running regional qualifying competitions around New Zealand in Auckland, Waikato/ Bay Of Plenty, Wellington, South Island, Northland and Hawkes Bay.

The Street Dance NZ National Championships competition includes 7 events over 5 days including a 10 year celebration show, workshops, Mega Day ( Mega crews, high school and intermediate crews)  2 on 2 all style battles, prelims and the finals night. This year over 50 crews have entered and over 1,000 dancers will go head to head, all vying for an opportunity to represent their country.

The finalists from the regions will come to battle it out at the national finals for their place to compete in Las Vegas at the World Hip Hop Championships.

Those who qualify to compete at the World Hip Hop Championships in August will go up against 64 countries and 3,500 dancers from all corners of the globe.

Street Dance NZ Head Judge Stephen Grey says,"My involvement over the past 10 years with Street Dance NZ has been an amazing journey of witnessing many homegrown success stories, whether it be backyard dancers achieving world titles, or hardworking individuals achieving international acclaim, it never gets old, there is always another achievement to celebrate."

There are multiple success stories of dancers and choreographers who have been apart of the Street Dance NZ competition. Most notable is world-renowned choreographer Parris Goebel, who now works alongside the biggest names in the music industry including Rihanna, J.Lo. Janet Jackson and Justin Bieber.

New Zealand has been represented every year in the world finals and now has a powerful international reputation.  In 2015 NZ crew The BRADAS of IDentity Dance Company brought home the GOLD in the adult division, with the Royal Family winning silver in the Mega Crew division.

The SDNZ event will be held on Wednesday 27th April 2016 at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau.
