“Whakarukea! Tū tonu maunga Hikurangi, tuohu ko ngā uri e” is a mission statement Hikurangi Ahikaa strongly uphold as they go into the Tamararo regional competitions this morning.
Established in 1958, Hikurangi Ahikaa and their other affiliated team Hikurangi make a long awaited return to the Tamararo competition this year and are tutored by Te Rina Aupouri and Hinetu Dell.
To honour the memory of Te Moana-nui-a-kiwa Ngarimu VC, Hikurangi Ahikaa wear purple, the main colour of the Victoria Cross.
Today the group shares their Waiata-a-ringa (action song) titled “Haere mai rā e ngā iwi e.”
