Te Kura Māori o ngā Tapuwae from Te kei o te waka o Tainui region was first established in 1976.
The rōpū first competed in the National Secondary School Kapa Haka competition in the year 2000 when it was hosted by the Auckland region.
The group is guided by the whakatauki “Inā te mahi he rangatira!”
Off stage, the group is under the guidance of tutors from the extended Ngā Tapuwae whānau. On stage, the rōpū are led by kaitātaki tāne Jayden Thompson-Barchard and kaitātaki wahine Pani Moeau.
The item they have chosen to share is their haka “Tāmaki ki te Tonga – Mōrikarika. This haka urges the media to stop encouraging negative stereotypes of South Auckland youth.
