Sonny Bill Williams has just announced on Twitter “Down but never out, always praise to the most high for blessing me with so much! Let's go @nz7s we still in this."
Not only have New Zealand lost their opening game 14-12 to Japan they have also lost Sonny Bill Williams whose ruptured his Achilles tendon.
The NZ Olympic Team through twitter on @nzolympics says “NZ Sevens injury update. @SonnyBWilliams ruled out with partial Achilles rupture. Replaced by Sione Molia.”
At the beginning of the second half Williams was seen hopling and later carried off the field.
Sky Sport commentator Karl Tenana says “I thought he got taken high initially and wasn’t called by the refferee, this is a big moment in this game.”
Joe Webber also joins Williams on the injured list with a shoulder injury.
