Interim name suppression was granted for the 36-year-old woman charged with the murder of 36-year-old Carly Stewart.
Stewart died at the scene of a Te Atatu south residence where she was fatally stabbed on Saturday afternoon.
The accused appeared in the Waitakere District Court where she could be seen wiping tears from her eyes in the dock.
Judge Ajit Singh granted the suppression on the grounds the family were yet to be notified, which included the accused's elderly grandmother.
Te Kāea understands the accused and Carly Stewart were known to each other.
The maximum penalty for the murder charge is life imprisonment and the accused will reappear in the High Court on Nov, 2.
