Wāhine Māori trio sworn into High Court

Three Māori women were sworn in as lawyers in the Rotorua High Court.

There is only an estimate of one thousand barristers and solicitors admitted each year and six percent of those are Māori, even less are Māori women.

The trio says they will stand as kaitiaki in the courts.

Katie Paul (Te Arawa), Kalei Delamere-Ririnui (Tauranga Moana) and Tyler Paki-Te Huia (Ngāti Maniapoto) spoke to Te Ao about their roles and especially the importance of more wāhine Māori pursuing such career paths.
