The Waka Ama National Sprint Championships is a week-long event of competing and celebrating Waka Ama.
The competition began yesterday with tamariki competing first.
An expected 8000 spectators will attend the event, which will be broadcast all week by Whakaata Māori and live coverage will be available online.
